Pregnant women should not sleep on their backs

As if it were not hard enough to find a comfortable sleeping position as a high-pregnant woman ... Researchers have now discovered that the risk of a still birth, even at a later stage of pregnancy, increases when the mother is sleeping on her back.

For the study , which was created in cooperation of various British and New Zealand universities, 291 women were interviewed who suffered a stillbirth and 733 mothers. Both groups were asked about their sleep habits.

It turned out that mothers who are back sleepers, compared to women who sleep on the left side, are twice as likely to give birth to their child dead. After the 28th week of pregnancy , this risk even increases again. Overall, 3.7 percent of all stillbirths were attributed to the mother sleeping on her back. Other factors such as the size of the baby and the weight of the mother did not matter. On the other hand, pregnant women who get up more than once a night to go to the bathroom had a reduced risk.
